Due to unprecedented heat indexes, the district has postponed the start of the middle school football schedule. While the first game was set to take place on August 28 for 7th grade and August 29 for 8th grade, those games will now be moved to the end of the season on October 23 and 24 respectively.
Temperatures this summer have been higher than normal. According to the Houston Chronicle, this past weekend marked the 10th consecutive day of 100+ degree heat in the Houston area. This broke the record previously set in 1962.
Earlier this week, Humble ISD announced that all 8th grade practices would be moved temporarily to 7-8am rather than their normal after school practices due to the extreme heat.
These morning practices for 8th graders will continue until next Friday, August 25.
