Week 2 of RELA

What’s Happening in RELA Classes?

Week two of school and RELA is growing every day!

6th: This week, students will begin independent reading, as the teacher confers during the first ten minutes of class. Students will focus on understanding the author’s message through figurative language and symbolism. Students will compare and contrast poems and create a sketch note to showcase their understanding.

7th: This week, students will continue to read independently, and the teacher will begin conferring with students. Students will begin exploring thematic connections within the unit of “Truth and Credibility” and evaluating passages for author’s purpose and craft moves.

8th: This week, students will begin independent reading, as the teacher confers during the first ten minutes of class. Students will also explore the first thematic unit, Systems, by making connections and identifying systems through poetry. Students will focus on understanding the author’s message through figurative language and symbolism. Students will compare and contrast poems and create a poem modeled after a specific poet of choice.
